Chris, Thank you for your posts. You are right! I remember growing up that I would anxiously await union suit weather. They were always on my Christmas and birthday wish lists.
Anony: Hope your parents occasionally made your wishes come true. I'm just guessing, but for many of us union suits have been a more favored gift over the years than socks. Union suits for my two older boys anyway. My younger son always preferred the two-piece thermal spiderman underwear. Living and growing up in northern Idaho, Christmas brought toys and long underwear for me and later my boys.
Yes, I was often given a union suit or two on Christmas. Some years, my brother and I would get footed pajamas and I would put them on over my union suit. I was so warm and comfortable that I hated to change. Today, I start wearing a union suit in October up until April.
As I remember, you spent your informative years on a ranch much of the time where long johns were a perennial favorite. How about these winters now? ... Chris
Hey Chris. Yes, long johns were necessary on the ranch. However, this last winter was unusually warm. There were days here and there where it was cold enough to pull on the long johns.
