Boys will be Boys
Yes, when it comes to underwear, boys will be boys even when they're wearing their union suits. Two of my boys wear union suits while my youngest son prefers two piece "super hero" thermal underwear.
Since May, 2016, an entertaining blog featuring men's and boys' long one-piece underwear aka union suits. Considered old-fashion by some but known to be warm, comfortable, and fun to wear by those of us who swear by 'em! ... Clem my affinity for union suits definitely stems from my childhood. I grew up next door to my paternal grandparents and would see grandpa’s union suits on the clothesline twice weekly. Even as a young boy I could see that combining top and bottom in one garment would be more comfortable in addition to being better at warding off the cold. As an adult I appreciate the lack of multiple waistbands and the bunching of material at the midsection……Buckeye Mike
ReplyDeleteIt is great to see these pictures and the simpler time for being a boy.
ReplyDeleteOver a two week stay the Christmas season with my grandparents at age 12, grandpa decided I needed an underwear suit like the kind he had worn all this life. So on Christmas morning, I opened a gift from him...a bright red union suit. I had never had one before. I pulled it on right away and wore it, and only it, all day Christmas; and wore it to bed the remainging nights I was with them. Getting up and sitting at the breakfast table with him in our union suits. That underwear made me a life-long union suit lover from that day to this. I'm buttoned up even now as I type this!

Rob:You sound like a Year Round, Daily Wearer of the Unionsuit the same as Myself. The Unionsuit can’t be beat for Total Body Comfort, Feeling, Support, Protection, Etc. I also occasionally Wear Raschel Thermal Knit 2 Piece Suits that I wish also came as a Unionsuit which a Long Underwear Friend introduced Me to back in 1/11 which is Just as Comfortable as the Unionsuit, but I will Take the Unionsuit Year Round over any other Choice of Inner Layer of Clothing Anyday👊!

1950s & 60s in "frozen North", us kids (boys & girls) and our elders wore unionsuits. Most homes were heated by woodstove or fireplace; Sept-June we wore fleece-lined "woolies" + wool sox. Healthy happy life ... fond memories - and wearing 2 unionsuit layers 24/7 ever since :)
