From the Urban Dictionary

Definition of a Union Suit:

Literally, a Onesie. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

Used in sentences:

Jenna: My dad's wearing a Union Suit!

Brendon: Isn't that just a onesie?

Jenna: Yeah LMAO

I've always thought a onesie had built-in feet such as that which an infant or small child would wear. To me, Union suits are worn barefoot or with socks. But, the younger generation likes to call union suits, "onesies." Whatever.... Chris

You can actually purchase this mug on Urban Dictionary. If you buy one, send me a photo of you
drinking coffee or tea in it while wearing your "onesie."

  2. Guess you would call me new school. I’m 19 yrs old and live in Wisconsin. I wear union suits and don’t call them onesies that’s for babies and little kids. My older brother refers his as union suits too… Brendon

    1. And Wisconsin is an excellent place to have union suits. Not just cold winters, but cold springs and falls too. The provide the comfort a man needs. Onesies provide comfort for a baby.

    2. I've never been too Wisconsin, Brendon, but I've a feeling that "Anonymous" is correct that it's cold [like northern Idaho] and a perfect location for wearing union suits [and heavy socks] spring, winter, and fall....Chris

  5. Thanks Brendon, Myron and Buckeye. I think we have a consensus amongst us Union Suit Fans:
Don't call a Union Suit a "Onesie." No way, no how... Chris

  6. Chris: It must be a generational thing for the most part even though Brenden calls his long underwear Union Suits. My husband and dad refer to their underwear as Union Suits but my sixteen year old son calls his Onesies. My boy says his ONESIES RULE. I usually just call all of their winter underwear onesies or longies. I've told you in the past about my men wearing union suits well into the spring here in Leadville, Colorado. They are still wearing them and it's June! ...Karen

    1. Good hearing from you again, Karen. You are surely correct. Most youngsters see and call union suits, "Onesies," with exceptions. I'm not surprised your guys are still wearing union suits in Leadville. I'm still wearing mine here in northern Idaho. We have some nice days but many with cold rain and rain mixed with snow here in the trees on a lake where my wife and I live.
You mention you call your guys' long underwear "onesies" or "longies." When I was a boy, my mom always called my union suits "longies" too, as in, "Chris your longies are dry, go get them off the line." I don't often hear that term for long underwear very often. You doing so brings back memories.
Be sure to keep in touch, my friend.... Chris
