If you play a musical instrument whether a guitar or some other instrument, pull on your union suit, and send me a photo of you playing it! Not your union suit, your musical instrument!! .... Chris
Looks like he got roughed up pretty good. Back in those days, I doubt he was booked and then let back out on the streets before that cop even finished up the paperwork on him (like now days in so many cities)....Eddie (Cincinnati)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a scene taken from a movie. I’d like to know which one and why that man got taken to jail in just his union suit…. Bill - St. Louis
ReplyDeleteBill: I don't have info as to which movie this may have come from.
ReplyDeleteIf any of you viewers have knowledge of where this scene may have originated, let me know...Chris
I recognize this still from the 1940 American movie "Castle on the Hudson", directed by Anatole Litvak. The gorgeous Pat O'Brien plays the warden in this scene, and John Garfield plays the dapper Union Suit wearer. Hope this helped... Ronnie - Tallahassee
ReplyDeleteRonnie: You must be a movie buff knowing that. I found that film and watched it on Dailymotion; it can also see on Pluto and Tubi, I believe. It is a 1940s Warner Brothers movie with the title as you knew, about a gangster who didn’t want to wear the prison uniform he was assigned. The warden told him he didn’t have to. He was smug about that but then was forced to walk out his cell and through the cold prison yard in his union suit. He remained a real “tough” guy even in his underwear!!
DeleteEddie - Cincinnati, Ohio
Thanks Ronnie for the info. I was curious to who that guy was. I plan to watch that movie…. Bill
DeleteP.S. Hopefully Chris will do a full posting on this movie… Bill
DeleteRonnie: I've been out and away for the past couple of weeks but am catching up now on comments in my postings. I wanted to thank you for identifying the man in his union suit being accompanied by a police officer. It helped a great deal as I had no idea where I could find a reference to this scene. That man looks a bit cold outside in just his underwear. Send me an email to let me know about your movie knowledge...Chris at cayersnd@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteAnd, Bill, your idea of doing a posting of this is a great idea....watch for it.
