"A Man Walks Into a Police Station"   No Joke

This long underwear story ran on newspapers' front pages across the country in April, 1938:

  1. Poor Mr. Cunningham! But lucky for him this didn't happen in the dead of winter, say January or the thieves might have stolen his socks and union suit too!! Rhode Island Randall

    1. Right you are, Randall. Could have been much worse if left without his underwear! ... Ray (Quincy, Mass)

  2. Chris: I remember reading that something similar happened here in Chicago reported in the Tribune. I think it was in the 1990's. I tried to look it up but couldn't find it. A young security guard downtown was standing outside on his break late afternoon in winter. He was only like 22 or 23 years old. Two guys pulled up with gun pointed and told him to get in their car. Inside they got his wallet and then made him strip off all his clothes and shoes. About two or three blocks away, they pushed him out in his union suit underwear and his socks too. He only had about $20, no credit cards. He wasn't hurt except for the embarrassment making the news about him on the street in just his underwear... paper and tv. Maybe you or your readers could find this newspaper report. Trey.

  3. Stripped down to your union suit during a robbery! And forced to walk to the police station in your socks and underwear!! Now, that would be embarrassing!
